Ted Cruz: A Look Back at His Early Years

A Glimpse into the Mind of a Presidential Candidate

From High School Ambitions to the Political Arena

Rafael Edward Cruz, better known as Ted Cruz, was born on December 22, 1970, in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. He is an American politician, attorney, and political commentator who has served as the junior United States Senator from Texas since 2013. Cruz is a member of the Republican Party.

In 1988, high school senior Ted Cruz was asked about his life's ambitions while attending Second Baptist School in Houston, Texas. Cruz's response, captured in a now-viral YouTube video, offers a glimpse into the mind of a future presidential candidate.

"I want to be an attorney and to go into public service," Cruz said with a youthful enthusiasm. "I'm very interested in politics and economics, and I think that the best way to make a difference in the world is to be involved in those areas."

Cruz's aspirations have certainly come to fruition. After graduating from Princeton University and Harvard Law School, Cruz worked as an attorney before entering politics. He was elected to the U.S. Senate in 2012 and has since become a rising star in the Republican Party. Cruz is considered a potential candidate for president in 2024.
